Cementing Practices that Use Business as a Force for Good

We envision a global economy that uses business as a force for good.

This economy is comprised of a new type of corporation - the B Corporation - Which is purpose-driven and creates benefit for all stakeholders, not just shareholders.

As B Corporations and leaders of this emerging economy, we believe:

- That we must be the change we seek in the world.

- That all business ought to be conducted as if people and place mattered.

- That, through their products, practices, and profits, businesses should aspire to do no harm and benefit all.

- To do so requires that we act with the understanding that we are dependent upon another and thus responsible for each other and future generations.

Back in July we wrote about our journey to become a family office that is a certified B Corp and to join the ranks of 2,300 other companies in 130 industries across 50 countries. We are following in the footsteps of early adopters of the benefit corporation practices such as Patagonia, Ben and Jerry’s and most recently, Danone. As we continue to work through this process, we are constantly reminded that this is the foundation for the way forward.

In order to make sure that this new foundation is laid throughout our entire organization, we are assessing each of our subsidiaries to ensure that the policies and business practices are consistent with the B-Corp standards across the board. This includes Citation KitchensKitchen Art Design, and NOVUS Glass. Over the next two quarters, we will work vigorously to implement new policies and procedures that work towards one goal of achieving an inclusive, sustainable economy that is better for everyone.
